28/08/2019: The New York Fire Department Commissioner receives the “Certificate of Recognition” from the Templar Nation
On Wednesday 28 August, the New York Fire Department (NYFD) Commissioner, Daniel A. Nigro, received from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Awana Gana Costantini Picardi, the “Certificate of Recognition” of the Templar Nation.
The award was presented to Commissioner Nigro for the heroic relief activities carried out by the New York Fire Department during the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 and in honor of the 343 deceased Firemen.
Daniel A. Nigro was accompanied by an official delegation.
The Ceremony took place at the Hotel Luna Baglioni in Venice, in the presence of the Director of the Hotel, Gianmatteo Zampieri.
Daniel Nigro’s career in the Fire Department is full of great successes.
In 1969 he entered the NYFD.
In 1993 he was appointed Deputy Head and in 1996 he supervised the merger of the city’s ambulance teams with firefighters.
Nigro was appointed Head of Department – the highest uniformed position of the Fire Brigade – after the death of Chief Peter J. Ganci, Jr., in the September 11 attacks.
In 2002, after retiring, he was named a member of a NYFD anti-terrorism task force.
In June 2014, the Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, appointed him Commissioner of the Fire Brigade.
Nigro is the 32nd Commissioner of the NYFD, a special unit founded on 31 July 1865.
