16/10/2019: Minister of Foreign Affairs Costantini Picardi writes to the Syrian Kurdish people: “we are with you”
The Minister of Foreign Affairs has sent an official letter to the General Command of the YPG and YPJ forces, the Kurdish Protection Units, in which he expresses, on behalf of the President and the Council of Ministers, the closeness to the Syrian Kurdish people.
The letter also reads: “The President and the Council of Ministers are doing everything possible to make the international community aware of putting an end to the absurd and violent Turkish military action in the Syrian area you are protecting”.
Turkey’s aim is to create a sort of buffer zone along the border between Turkey and Syria, in the territory currently controlled by Kurdish militias after the end of the ISIS caliphate..
Erdogan has long been talking about the need to create a safety zone to defend Turkey from the Kurdish terrorist threat, who said they were willing to do anything to defend their territory.
The conflict could now further expand as the central government in Damascus, after the ok arrived from Moscow, decided to send the Syrian regular army to the North to help Kurdish militias.
