11/10/2019: Turkey bombs the Kurds in Syria, 60,000 displaced. President Bonsi: “We must stop Erdogan, the UN must intervene immediately”
These days, Turkey has started the offensive against the Kurds in the north-east of Syria.
The announcement was made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Trump’s, the EU’s, and even Putin’s attempts at mediation have done nothing.
President Bonsi, along with the Council of Ministers, is constantly following the story.
“We are close to the Kurdish people, a people who have always been victims of persecution and massacres; must absolutely stop Erdogan, the UN must intervene immediately; we are sending, through our Minister of Foreign Affairs, an official letter to the United Nations to intervene without hesitation”.
The Kurds are an ethnic minority divided between Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Syria, which claims its political and cultural autonomy.
In Syria they fought alongside Arabs and Americans against the Islamic State, freeing Kobane, Raqqa and other cities that ended up under the control of Islamist fanatics.
They lost more than 12,000 women and men in the war against ISIS.
Currently the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Sdf, composed largely of YPGs, the Kurdish popular protection units, control an area northeast of the country that stretches 480 km from the Euphrates on the border with Iraq.
